CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Members of the College of Applied Biology are required under the Code of Ethics to work only within their area of expertise and to remain current with developments in their area of practice.
Clearly, one way for this to happen is for a member to produce evidence in a discipline proceeding of their professional development activities. What has been developed is a more proactive mechanism. The development of a Continuing Professional Development Program is seen as one such mechanisms to demonstrate responsibilities of both the College and its members in this area.
The Act has provided the opportunity for the College of Applied Biology Council to establish an Audit Committee. This committee has the authority to conduct random audits on a member’s practice (for further info see College Audit Program). The Continuing Professional Development Program, administered by the Audit Committee requires a practicing member to track their Continuing Professional Development activities and produce a record of these activities upon request. This program has been in development and discussion with the membership for some time, the full program and guidelines and CPD form is presented here for your information. For those interested in developing their own program you can review the Learning Plan Guideline. Questions on this material should be sent to the Managing Director who will pass them along to the appropriate staff or council member to address them. The first round of audits has now been completed and summary will be available on the College of Applied Biology site in late 2010.
A FAQ sheet has been developed to answer some of the questions raised by members. To reveiw this information go to FAQ Sheet.
